By the eighties, Shakespeare studies were open to movements such as structuralism, feminism, New Historicism, African American studies, and queer studies.

William Shakespeare became very wealthy by running plays and holding stocks in “The King’s Men”. This company used to be called “Lord Chamberlain's Men" and changed their name to "The King's Men". They had to change their name because King James I took over in 1603 due to the plague. This company became very popular due to the fact that Shakespeare worked and performed for them.
