COMPARE/CONTRACT POEM TO A SONG TO MODERN MUSCIAL ARTIST

AS THOU SHALT WANE, SO FAST THOU GROWEST

SONNET 11

As fast as thou shalt wane, so fast thou growest
In one of thine, from that which thou departest;
And that fresh blood which youngly thou bestow'st
Thou mayst call thine when thou from youth convertest.
Herein lives wisdom, beauty and increase:
Without this, folly, age and cold decay:
If all were minded so, the times should cease
And threescore year would make the world away.
Let those whom Nature hath not made for store,
Harsh featureless and rude, barrenly perish:
Look, whom she best endow'd she gave the more;
Which bounteous gift thou shouldst in bounty cherish:
She carved thee for her seal, and meant thereby
Thou shouldst print more, not let that copy die

THE SONG BY THE BEATELS WHEN I’M SIXTY FOUR
When I get older, losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me
a Valentine Birthday greetings, bottle of wine
If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty four
You'll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you
I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater
by the fireside
Sunday morning go for a ride
Doing the garden,
digging the weeds
Who could ask for more
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty four
Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera Chuck and Dave
Send me a postcard drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely
what you mean to say
Yours sincerely wasting away
Give me an answer, fill iEn a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty four

The poem “AS THOU SHALT WANE, SO FAST AS THOU GROWEST” and the song “WHEN I’M SIXTY FOUR” by the Beatles are very much alike because both talks about aging in a relationship. The poem is different from the song because of the way Shakespeare writes during that era which was mostly the old language he used, while the song actually brings out the simple aspect of the poem which is the modern day’s language.
